First Poetry Collaboration with Zorlone

Collaborative Poems
25 Aug 2009

Zorlone and I collaborated on a poem together where we did an email exchange each writing a line of the poem and continuing to take turns until the poem was finished. This poem came out as the result of our first poetry collaboration, and I think it turned out nicely.

See if you can guess which lines were written by Dragonblogger and which were written by Zorlone.

At The Break of Dawn

Dark skies mirror the shadows in my soul
but moonbeams penetrate sanity into my heart

A war of worlds beats within my chest
like hummingbirds in a springtime of sweethearts.

As the bitter cold bites my skin, I know now what I must do
seek comfort in the warmth of a long forsaken memory

Return from banishment and claim the priests daughter
for I shall never be exiled with the curse of Catullus and Propertius elegies.

I made haste, preparing for a destiny forged by my own hands
this castle of serenity, soon to become an icon of my tortured past

At dawn, I faced my foes and fears at once
breaking each spell, this sorcerer’s force came but was squashed.

When at last her heart and hand were won
These darkened skies succinctly rested and its pieces – torn.

The Fallen Knight

Collaborative Poems
16 Dec 2008

This was another collaboration poem with Jenn who runs the BeforeIAmFamous and Dragonfly Poems blogs.  We ran this poetry contest to start just by emailing each other a random poem line and then each of us would add to the poem one line at a time via email exchanges.  Never knowing what the other person would write, the poem took some interesting twists and turns before being completed.

This poem came out very well in my opinion, and if you like our collaborated work then check out Jenn’s sites in the links above.

The Fallen Knight

Shivering stars radiate over whispy snow
This frigid world was once aglow
Hands once soft now hardened
Face once smooth now weathered
eyes listless- waiting
Spotting movement from the corner of his eye
in silent reprieve

The moment is lost when his predator discovers him
Knees weak with archaic cold, fleeing
An arrow narrowly misses its mark whirring right past his ear, falling into the snow
Once the hunter now the hunted as he doubles his pace
The questions come amongst shivering evergreens why him?

He once was a man of honor A man who once questioned a wicked king and barely lives
Running, again thoughts of who he was intercede his vision
Would he make the same choice again if it meant living like this?
Then pain swells in his breast, cherry red drops fall like rain underneath the full moon

Praying for only a flesh wound the sight however holds no promise
collapsing into snowy mounds, staring up to the sky, coldness seeps into his bones
Time slows to a crawl and one last thought flickers in20his dying moment
her kiss that dissolved his honor, her kiss that he still longs for.

Joint Poem With SummerDragon80

Collaborative Poems
02 Dec 2008

Jenn and I decided to try a little poetry experiment where we would collaboratively create a poem. It started with an email with one poetry line and then a response with the second line and continued until we both thought the poem was finished. Neither one of us would know what the other would write, after the poem was completed we each came up with a list of titles and chose which one seemed to fit best.

I liked A Lone Wolf’s Heart, so I am re-posting the full poem. You should check out Before I Am Famous and Dragonfly Poems for Jenn’s other work, she is one of the people who inspired me to create a poetry blog in the first place.

A Lone Wolf’s Heart

Release these chains around your wrists
Stand naked before the weeping moon
The Howling wolves within your heart
Consuming fires engulf your lonely soul

Will you find that long lost love?
Will you find your savior from wretchedness?
Your bleeding heart shall shed no more tears
I am waiting in the shadows to join you
Where is your knight to slay the dragon?

To free you from the dark serpents
Justice and valor seem a distant memory
Come and let me enrapture you
Kiss me tender then kiss me firm
Our loneliness vanishes. In the inferno from the dragon’s mouth our bodies melt
Passion is assured with my heart being saved
