Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, “There, she is gone.”

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,

hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me — not in her.

And, just at the moment when someone says, “There, she is gone,”
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”

And that is dying…

Gone From My Sight
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
And that is dying...</itunes:summary>

The Black Seams

No romance in the rain today
like a buried forgotten titan
insouciant journeyman ploughs forth
glow of lanterns an invigorating depression
stigma of coal; black as vinyl ever present
this gig a win in a worldwide job shortage
and with no time to linger or whimper
without thought to retire to a barcalounger
he continues mining and carving his hole

The Black Seams
No romance in the rain today
like a buried forgotten titan
insouciant journeyman ploughs forth
glow of lanterns an invigorating depression
stigma of coal; black as vinyl ever present
this gig a win in a worldwide job shortage
and with no time to linger or whimper
without thought to retire to a barcalounger
he continues mining and carving his hole

I wanted to write something for New Years and thought a crossroads type of poem would be a good place to start. This poem just wrote itself as I started to think about things like resolutions, 2nd chances and future potential.

New Chances

A chance to win what was lost
a chance to change at any cost

A reason to be something greater
a reason to become an original creator

A prospect of something to finally win
a prospect to right a previous sin

A gift of hindsight to get things right
a gift of future that shines so bright

A hope that a world will be in healing
a hope that more people will start feeling

A time to do something previously planned
a time to finally take that last stand

Haunting science the stapler of truth
ambidextrous deity spells our doom
frightened knees turning to pudding

Formal Lunch

In a ridiculous situation

handing over a business card

fancy initials shining

no headsets block the crashing

whole room noticing immediately

a lighthouse beam of attention

sublime anarchy as glasses fall

blasted raisin revenge in disguise

as wine stains sleeves and tablecloths

my formal lunch never forgotten

Formal Lunch
In a ridiculous situation

handing over a business card

fancy initials shining

no headsets block the crashing

whole room noticing immediately

a lighthouse beam of attention

sublime anarchy as glasses fall

blasted raisin revenge in disguise

as wine stains sleeves and tablecloths

my formal lunch never forgotten</itunes:summary>
