Hunt For The Glowing Orb – Random Twitter Poem for April 14th
- twitter poems
-
Today’s poem was inspired by the will-o’-the-wisp word which is a creature that I used to pit against my players in Dungeons and Dragons on a few occasions, everything else fit so well with this theme that although the poem is very much like a role playing story line from a fantasy novel I enjoyed putting it together. Thanks to my twitter followers for the 13 random words (in blue) provided today:
@Rinari (elusive), @stnmoon (Search), @Zorlone (meandering), @Oneunder2001 (teleprompter), @jrgarralda (will-o’-the-wisp), @blm03 (winner), @CarlsJr (Bourbon), @lejonprime (phrenetic), @viktorwalters (buer)
@R_Arblaster (congratulating), @BlazingMinds (growth), @nipplelicious (enhance), @JessicaSieghart (pepper)
Hunt For The Glowing Orb
In the darkening murky swamp
Meandering through muck, the search continues
A most elusive thing once spotted
Magnificent and haunting to seeA single glowing orb emitting voices
A mirage or a phantom you had thought
Echoing the same words over and over
As if reading from a teleprompterPeople thought you were crazy
Hallucinations produced by too much bourbon
You knew the truth of what was out there
You continue your hunt and will be a winnerThey would be congratulating you
For finding and bringing this creature
Or foul Buer spirit back with you
Which would enhance your reputationThen you got your wish and it was a curse
The soft blue glow rising from the murky water
The murmoring and speech garbled and venomous
Your heart beat at a phrenetic paceYour senses assaulted as if reeling from a spicy pepper
A strange tentacle erupts from the glowing orb
It grazes your shoulder and you shriek in pain
As a blue growth starts forming on your skinFlesh decaying rapidly as your thoughts fade
This single obsession was your fate
All you can think in your final horror

Out of thirteen words, you were able to make this suspense driven story, err, poem. How cool is that?
How do you form these thoughts? Do you jungle them in your head then throw them in the stanzas? Or the words dictate how the stanzas are formed?
Another great read Justin!

I collect all the words first usually, then look for one word to set my theme (or a few words). Then I craft the sentences around the words. I intend to create a video showing my poem creation process to give others insight.
