Today’s poem is about stealing a nap in the late afternoon, only to be plagued by nightmares and wishing you hadn’t taken a nap after all. This poem is inspired by the 14 random words (in blue) provided by the following twitter followers:

@Zorlone (narcoleptic), @ScamStopper (dilemma), @RemBeatZ (Loyalty), @solitarypanda (miscegenation), @shemah (translator), @thedoomeduk (Choler), @anefallarme (whiny), @KathrynVercillo (dreamy), @AnnEvanston (Serendipity), @MarionChapsal (Butterfly), @nicolaquinn (sesquipedalian), @losabrigados (winkingly), @devil_in_jail (pedophile), @Peter_Nehem (nitroglycerin)

Late Afternoon Nightmare

Stuck in a narcoleptic dilemma
relaxation sought in dreamy sleep
patience wanes into whiny choler
only loyalty sworn to your pillow

You lay there winkingly, drifting with thought
sesquipedalian dreams that need a translator
flow into your mind on butterfly wings
miscegenation of memories and creativity

Losing yourself between day and night
a refresh for the mind and soul
if only for a few moments
a quiet late afternoon nap

Serendipity would not be found, however
nitroglycerin charged pedophile nightmares
dream plagues that scar your psyche
awaking more fatigued than ever before

Was it punishment for stealing some sleep
or a curse for ignoring some work
now you rise out of your bed
wishing you would have stayed working instead
