Mutant Graduation – Random Twitter Poem for April 29th

Advertise with IZEA Media

This poem was written about someone graduating from college or high school, but the word mutants made me think of Professor X’s Mutant Academy in X-Men, so I actually crafted the poem to be about a mutant kid graduating from that academy to keep with the spirit of the poem. (Kind of ties into the X-Men Origins movie that opens on Friday too). Thanks to the following people for the 14 random words today (in blue):

@RemBeatZ (movement), @Jan_Geronimo (milestone), @tocco (graduation), @coyotesqrl (hostile), @KnightDiver (hope), @chapeau_awards (hairspray), @MrsWomanSays (destiny), @shemah (mutants), @Johnny_Chimpo (moist), @imjstsayin (driven), @MeghnaK (confidence), @worryknot (propinquity), @numbnuggets (apparition), @jollything (Jalopy)

Mutant Graduation

Stepping from the shower
Moving eighty miles an hour

Moist skin dried by large towel
Perfume smelling, opposite of foul

Hairspray and makeup secured
Today’s destiny is assured

Graduation is this great milestone
Showing just how much you’ve grown

Hostile apparition of your past mistakes
Faded and gone are those pains and aches

Full of confidence and hope as you get dressed
You will arrive in a jalopy, but you will look your best

Now movement is heard down the stairs
You call you are ready, as everyone prepares

The propinquity of the ceremony means you will arrive quick
You laugh to yourself “What if this is all one big trick?”

As you are driven just a few blocks away
You see your friends goofing around in play

Some people would call you mutants in fear
But all you can think about is graduation so near

Hello...I just love what you are doing here.
Who would have thought ....
I agree with Mrs.Woman...'propinquity' is a tongue twister at best.
My partner is an amazing at words. I am always running them by my dictionary.
A very good exercise for the brain and I would also love to participate in your next mind challenging poem!
Your ability to actually use all of the words to create a poem is truly brilliant and much approbation is sent your way!
Have a very productive day :)

Thank you very much, you can play anytime, just send me a random word on twitter @dragonblogger, and I will queue it for my next poem.

A very evocative poem - great work! How you worked in 'propinquity' (not my word BTW), deserves a medal : )

Thank you, I had to look the word up honestly, I had no idea what it mean't and it was one of the hardest words to use.

Excellent poem! I love this idea too. I've got to get in on it next time you ask for random words. Great job.

Come to think of it, their graduation is no different than anyone else.

Justin!! I'm totally psyched by your poem! I chose the word mutants 'coz I just watched the X-Men Origins: Wolverine today (it premiered today over here!) and I thought it was pretty awesome.. just like your poem!!! :)
There were parts of the film that I wish they would pay more attention to, I felt some of the characters were underplayed.. but all in all, I think it's an awesome summer movie. Book your tickets today!
