This poem was inspired by the book As the Shadows Fall which is a book about two Persian families dealing with secrets, patriotism, suffering and is set in Los Angeles in the year 2003.

As The Shadows Fall

Whispers in the streets

tightening of iron fists

lips forever sealed

as the shadows fall

Lives once unbroken

only pieces now exist

did we want freedom

as the shadows fall

Change can happen

only one generation

all becomes clearer

as the shadows fall
