Poem: The Mocking Melody

“The Mocking Melody” was composed after an assignment in my class to tackle the ever villainous villanelle form.  Thinking of subjects that could fit for a villanelle was causing me to tear my hair out.  Outside my window that very same morning, was a mockingbird singing his teeny heart out.  So I sat down and penned this.  I write poems on a variety of other subjects too, including Trending Topics on Twitter.  You can take a peek at Trendingpoetry.com. ~Persian Poetess

The Mocking Melody

Forever singing his many-tongued harmony,

this songster of soul has a bewitching tweet.

Hear his lullaby in mockingbird country!

Belting his opera atop a perch conspicuously,

check-checking his love in a seducing beat.

Forever singing his many-tongued harmony.

As the rockstar of Shangri-La his show needs no marquee,

his refrain so resilient that no other can compete.

Hear his lullaby in mockingbird country!

Upon the first blooms of spring he is Mother Nature’s emcee,

a Don Juan serenading new lovers to meet.

Forever singing his many-tongued harmony.

Pirating any charming new tune jealousy,

banking in a collection that will never complete.

Hear his lullaby in mockingbird country!

Fated to a life of crooning endlessly,

seeking company with his chats and cheets.

Forever singing his many-tongued harmony,

Hear his lullaby in mockingbird country!
