Presentation Matters is about a person trying to come up with a way to show his appreciation and affection only to disappoint in the end. The poem was started with romantic tones and for some reason I thought of a Donkey smile and someone feeling “sheepish” and the poem bent toward that ending situation as I was writing it. In the case of this poem I was trying to picture someone who felt more for somebody else than they felt for them and when they tried to convey it the situation backfired. This poem was inspired by the 15 submissions (in blue) from the following Twitter players:

Presentation Matters

Lingering bubbles of a certain romance
a plethora of credible affection to convey
showing just how much you appreciate these times

Yet a message and statement that cannot be expressed
by some disingenuous beta technology communique
equation of love’s continuum wrapped in presentation

Coming up with an idea you procrastinate no longer
hoping for grandeur lest you suffer bitter remorse
thoughts hand written and sealed with a golden star

A formal night in waiting and the present has arrived
nictitate response nonsustaining, a thought that barely mattered
such an assassin like reaction to ones beating fragile heart

Was it incorrect assumptions this entire time?
one sided emotions now finally coming into light
a donkey grin lingers as you wash away your pride
