Today’s poem tells a story that can happen to anyone who has allergic reactions and is at risk of going into anaphylactic shock, it tells a story of a person attending a company social gathering only to have a severe reaction after trying an appetizer. Poem was inspired by the following 12 random words (in blue) provided by my twitter followers:

@JenaIsle (phosphorylation), @Zorlone (syzygy), @writingnag (devoid), @RobinJP (want), @AnnEvanston (camel), @santasdevil (career), @denthewise (autonomous), @katheesue (popular), @shemah (equilibrium), @azredneck (martini), @RemBeatZ (metabolism), @johnjriewe (internecine)

Allergic Reaction

As rare as a syzygy event
an autonomous reaction occurring
suddenly your lungs devoid of air
antibodies and immune system gone berserk
as if seeking out phosphorylation induced proteins
wishing you could have stored a breath
as a camel stores water, you gasp
the want for breath becoming a need
air has never been more popular
internecine metabolism betrayed you
your equilibrium starts to fail
as if you had imbibed a strong martini
all from a simple event
hobnobbing to advance your career
a single canapé, a simple formality
hope is all that remains
that paramedics arrive on time
