Twisted Creatures

What are these twisted creatures
With many limbs and creepy features

They dance along the ground at night
Giving humans quite a fright

Spiders, scorpions and crickets too
Shades of red, brown and even blue

Night time critters scattered around
While humans are sleeping safe and sound

Why do most people reel in revulsion
At these creatures, like a compulsion

Through nature our purpose connects
With these simple little insects

Hunting Spider – Random Twitter Poem for July 16th

twitter poems
16 Jul 2009

Today’s poem is inspired by the giant spider I caught for my boys this morning, so many people sent words like predator, avatar, “cacciatore” which means hunter in Italian, that I this just seem to write itself. Thanks to the following twitter followers for the 9 random words (in blue) provided.

@JamesBlackLive (valiant), @jeremylewit (cacciatore ), @ryjr (cognisance), @santasdevil (predator), @denthewise (avatar), @coyotesqrl (collapse), @evliving (withdrawal), @R_Arblaster (uncomplicated), @stnmoon (Friendly)

Hunting Spider

Simple uncomplicated cognisance
like the idealistic avatar
of a valiant predator
a silent eight legged cacciatore

Unsuspecting group of friendly insects
startled when the spider drops down
attempting to make hasty withdrawal
they scatter and jump in chaos

One victim, not so fortunate
as its body begins to collapse
decaying from the injected venom
the spider drags off its midnight snack
