Thaw Out is about a warm front moving in to clear away a massive ice storm and it was inspired by the 22 random words (in blue) played by the following twitter followers:

Thaw Out

An egotistical lingering ice storm overhead
a flirt with abnormally high temperatures
temporary abduction of winter’s bitter cold
fluttering of branches as leaves shed weight
discarded snowballs the size of a coconut
the frozen winter treat liquefied rapidly
icicles melt and splinter while falling
dripping nebular water like dirty cream
scalable runoff racing in conspiracy
the road transfigured into tablature
sophisticated furor over the timing
a quandary over the cleanup ensues
kids mumble over returning to school
a ski franchise braces for a dive
as everything starts to thaw out

Cold Shock – Random Twitter Poem for Jan 7th

twitter poems
07 Jan 2010

Today’s poem was ginormous and took me almost 30 minutes to write, with me being so busy at work during the day, lately I haven’t had time to write twitter poems except after dinner. I may have to cap the number of submissions I can accept at some point, but for now I enjoy seeing just what I can do, and wonder how many words I can really use in a random word poem?

Cold Shock is about a bitter frigid cold front that overtakes a region, and is my largest twitter poem to date. It was inspired by 27 random words (in blue) provided by today’s twitter followers below:
@drdon911 (transliteration), @Sweetnote (symbiotic), @robertbravery (quivering), @omgzam (rebound), @filigreegirl (dependability), @cupcakes5 (whirligig), @SurfCityJay (sub-zero), @Kristen_Howe (shallow), @buddawiggi (whomever), @shemah (charismatic), @anefallarme (usher), @MaryBethJBellon (snow), @Oneunder2001 (cantaloupe), @DaveLair (Latissimus Dorsi), @Robbie42601 (Trinity), @santasdevil (rendezvous), @hammyhavoc (Gasconading), @IZEAinc (electrify), @JeffHicks (fruition), @BloggerTalk (tranquility), @chuck72061 (assassin), @RemBeatZ (flatulence), @HarleyQuinnAA (obstinate), @TrinaMb (design), @gypsiedream (Necromancy), @KathySperlBell (Savasana), @barbehr (devastation)

Cold Shock

Sub-zero temperatures like dark necromancy
electrify the skin as if by wicked design
whirligig of shallow frost an unwelcome rendezvous
bitter symbiotic trinity of wind, chill and ice
sting your eyes and nose like noxious icy flatulence
a sharp feeling like a quivering assassin blade
penetrating through leather to your Latissimus dorsi
cold snow squishing like rotten cantaloupe under boot
a frigid Savasana tranquility, nature’s frozen devastation
dependability of obstinate gasconading forecasters increased
as previous predictions finally come to true fruition
you pray to whomever has the mighty charismatic power
to perform some weather transliteration quickly
rebound to something more tolerable or usher in Spring
so that we may get relief from this cold shock

10-6 Poetry Contest Winner

Misc Poems
13 Oct 2008

The winner of Wanderer Thoughts first Poetry contest goes to Romeo from Romeo’s Mad World.

The contest asked participants to write an original poem based on the week’s theme which was “ICE“.

Here is the Winning Poem.

A shimmering ring of ice
a cold breath against the knife
the endless torment whispers
ringing in my ears-
finds the cracks down to my soul
and never lets me go-

A fallen, broken angel-
lands in an a icy grave,
her wings burnt and weathered,
to far gone, for me to save.

The beauty of the world
succumbing to this ice-
the beauty of this girl
is all i hold to in this life-
there is nothing,
no fire no flame,
nothign i have ever seen
or given another name-
but to see this girl wither
and fall into glass
her face was so beautiful
but nothing ever lasts-

Thanks to all the other contestants who participated.
