Burnt Sausage

Recruitment began in the barnyard
meat ground and seasoned lightly
casing surrounding like an ectoenzyme
poor peculiar diazotized sausage
oil and fat sizzle and coruscate
endurance tested on a frying pan
now left on a plate, uneaten
alone, dejected and humiliated
lengthy circumlocution can describe why
who would celebrate the rubbery edges
or love the burnt flavor if consumed
in retrospect, it was overcooked

The beauty in this fine food
puts you into a peculiar mood

Jovial taste buds buzzing in delight
lips rhythmical in a smacking fight

The last bite has you reminiscing
taste you have always been missing

Like a chemical flavor enhancer
one that doesn’t cause cancer

A little sick twisted depravity
a trajectory involving simple gravity

Catching the piece in your mouth
it could have missed and went south

One tender morsel is all that is left
you would unfriend whomever commits this theft

The final piece ingested by you
meal consumed you then bid adieu

My life stood still
by a single innocuous
murderous meatball

A light maelstrom,
blood like sauce
stained my briolette necklace

Officious halcyon ventripotent poodle
unthreatened, helping herself
to the haberdashery of food

Call it clumsiness,
an elderly fossil fumbles
a light slippery fork

But always count on
the reliability of your dog
to help clean up the mess
