Trick or Treat

A happy goblin with a sausage nose
haunted pirates putting on clever shows

Compilation of costumed kids lurking about
looting candy and money on a neighborhood route

A scientist who might study nephelometry
an acumen trickster stops, giggling with glee

A ghost who is no illusion this night
spinning and whirling out in plain sight

A superhero whose eye rays can split deuterium
or a Hulk who can punch through solid titanium

A girl collects another handful of bubble gum
Holiday euphoria and both kids and adults succumb

Every last fragment of candy scoured at last
another Halloween night has finally passed

Bugs Come Out

Bugs come out
Bugs come out
The rain comes in
and Bugs come out
Bugs eat other bugs
Lizards eat bugs
Everyone eats bugs
Hooray the bugs are out

Feeding A Toddler – Random Twitter Poem for September 23rd

twitter poems
23 Sep 2009

Today’s humorous poem is dedicated to parents everywhere who have tried to get a picky kid to eat. This poem was inspired by the 9 words provided (in blue) by the following twitter followers:
@RobinJP (colorful), @concisionflux (aardvark), @RemBeatZ (cherub), @purple_froggy (bonehead), coffeetablepoet (perjure), @waynejohn (orange), @santasdevil (soggy), @kateblogs (sagacious), @filigreegirl (tchotchke)

Feeding A Toddler

Picking up the spoon gingerly
as if it were some sort of tchotchke
toddler with a cherub like face
studying the food like a sagacious sleuth
playing with the texture at first
reacting as if some bonehead cooked this
and it were aardvark instead of chicken
a putrid colorful rotten soggy orange
and your praise of its flavor and taste
were nothing more than desperate perjure
your pleas fall on deaf ears again
just another dinner evening it seems
trying to feed a toddler

Bug In A Tank

Audio Poetry, Kid Poems
05 Jan 2009

I wrote another poem with my young son at his request, I let him come up with a title and some of the lines and together we created the rhyming lines.  He did the voice recording and enjoyed it the entire time.

Bug In A Tank

This is my bug in the tank
Which I have my dad to thank

He caught it for me
Found it in a tree

It can be called a grasshopper
but really locust is more proper

It jumps up in the air so high
I hope that away it won’t fly

It eats sticks and leaves so green
I keep the tank all nice and clean

Speckled yellow with brown spots
Even having some white dots

Finding him was good luck
But momma thinks bugs are yuck

The Pizza Shop

Kids are excited by the Pizza Man
Uniform on and a hat on his head
Shoes on his feet, a spatula in his hand
Dough prepared but not to make bread

A kerfuffle unsettles the cheese
Due to Pepperoni stacked on top
Kids imploring “More toppings please”
The oven door closes with a plop

The party a cure for a mood that is blue
More potent than any prozac
One child runs amuck, another plays a kazoo
One applause standing next to Jack

The golden brown pie emerges from the oven
Saliva runs freely as we watch this display
Our tummies are ready for some lovin’
Kids enjoying this most wonderful day

Vibrant verdant peppers adorning the tops
Tables are set and pies lay face up
Gooey Cheese bubbles, sizzles then pops
Each plate adorned with a fork and a cup

A marathon ensues, who can eat the most food
Rushing over dodging kids with a shuffle
The last piece remains drawing a feud
Parents use ethics to solve this scuffle

The shortest straw shall win the last piece
A winner is chosen the rest stand in awe
The slice is lifted and dripping with grease
Last bite is gone when it enters the kids jaw
