The Fallen Knight

Collaborative Poems
16 Dec 2008

This was another collaboration poem with Jenn who runs the BeforeIAmFamous and Dragonfly Poems blogs.  We ran this poetry contest to start just by emailing each other a random poem line and then each of us would add to the poem one line at a time via email exchanges.  Never knowing what the other person would write, the poem took some interesting twists and turns before being completed.

This poem came out very well in my opinion, and if you like our collaborated work then check out Jenn’s sites in the links above.

The Fallen Knight

Shivering stars radiate over whispy snow
This frigid world was once aglow
Hands once soft now hardened
Face once smooth now weathered
eyes listless- waiting
Spotting movement from the corner of his eye
in silent reprieve

The moment is lost when his predator discovers him
Knees weak with archaic cold, fleeing
An arrow narrowly misses its mark whirring right past his ear, falling into the snow
Once the hunter now the hunted as he doubles his pace
The questions come amongst shivering evergreens why him?

He once was a man of honor A man who once questioned a wicked king and barely lives
Running, again thoughts of who he was intercede his vision
Would he make the same choice again if it meant living like this?
Then pain swells in his breast, cherry red drops fall like rain underneath the full moon

Praying for only a flesh wound the sight however holds no promise
collapsing into snowy mounds, staring up to the sky, coldness seeps into his bones
Time slows to a crawl and one last thought flickers in20his dying moment
her kiss that dissolved his honor, her kiss that he still longs for.
