This poem turned out to be another story about a lawyer who loses faith in himself and the system and finds a new path for his life while leaving the courtroom one day. The word today “Friar” was the one that triggered me to think of this theme. 13 random words were used and highlighted in blue, thanks to the following people (followed by their words) for contributing to today’s poem:
@coach_gold (tome), @coyotesqrl (chapter), @WhiskeyChick (unscrupulous), @azredneck (hyper), @IntegralChaotic (friar), @BlazingMinds (bliss), @crimsong19 (death), @SurfCityJay (expense), @netta50 (delicious), @lejonprime (gastropod), @craftyGAgal (jubilee), @cheth (mystify), @benjphoto (dilettante)

A Life That’s Changed
A miracle was witnessed an ordinary life changed
This man once a laywer in bitter turmoil
A personal life falling to pieces and shame
Putting away unscrupulous criminals was always his purpose
This trial jarred the man for some reason
A monster so vile he was sentenced to death
The verdict was just yet the lawyer felt hollow
Had he not served the people and the law?
Was He Tired of justice being served
At the expense of a piece of his soul
He felt at the end of his rope and his game
But what happened that day would mystify him
Wandering a different path when leaving the courtroom
Something special would happen this very day
The man passed an ancient church door ajar
Maybe he was seeking hope or forgiveness
Whatever drove him to veer his course
He would tell you it was his fate
A wave of excitement started to creep over him
He felt alive and vibrant and hyper inside
He opened the door and there sat an altar
Carved in marble and dressed in gold
Light trickled in from stained glass windows
A single beam highlighting a silver goblet
So he ran to the goblet a fire burning inside
Lifting it to his lips he drank the water
The taste of his soul cleansing was delicious
His mind wiped of doubt, fear and guilt
No more does he feel this way, his mind is free
Like a gastropod emerging from its shell
He steps out of his old way of life
Like disrobing from soiled clothing
So begins a new chapter in this man’s life
It beings by studying an ancient tome
Dedicating ones life to become a friar
And achieve bliss through understanding god
He had become a dilettante in the pursuits of faith
And when One year was passed spent in silent pursuit
He spoke for the first time at his jubilee
Harmony is found my soul is clean he declared
Those around him bore friendly smiles
Brother, Sisters and Friends to all
He lived his life free the rest of his days
Never looking back on the courtroom’s call
