Tragic Cinco De Mayo

Stranded with nowhere to turn
The illusion of escape fading
Pinnacle of life nearing an end
Will serendipity be found?

Diligent pursuer finally catches up
Broken vintage bottle of rum in one hand
An almost metallic sharpened edge
thrusting closer, seeking your silence

How can a simple auspicious celebration
At your friend’s Cinco De Mayo party
Become a twisted and gnarled event
Ending with your blood on the pavement
