Unattended Candle

While engaged in the balance of discalceation
You notice the odor of a curious emission

Almost like a birthday candle blown out
It smelled like smoke, without a doubt

A devoted missionary to find the source
Hoping the cause doesn’t lead to remorse

A fire rising from on your kitchen table
A candle burned low and became unstable

Flames rising from some paper napkins
Sudden energy from rising endorphins

Wetting a towel trying to wafer the flame
Panic set in, what’s happening is insane

The fire is out, the smell almost making you choke
Opening the door, windy air rushes in to clear the smoke

You dodged a bullet and it could have been worse
The candle was a gift and could have also been a curse
